CASE STUDY 6: KHLONG DAN FISHING VILLAGE

Khlong Dan Fishing Village in Bang Pu is a bustling community of fishermen who catch and dry fish on bamboo platforms, preserving their traditional practices. Recently, locals have diversified their income by operating restaurants and small eateries, showing adaptability in the face of changing conditions. Homes in the village have been structurally adapted, with many adding concrete posts to replace or reinforce old bamboo structures, enhancing stability and protection against rising sea levels and flooding

The village employs multiple layers of defense against sea level rise and erosion, including the construction of dikes and the strategic planting of mangroves. These measures act as both physical and natural barriers, stabilizing the shoreline and reducing wave impact. However, waste management remains a significant challenge, with plastic bottles and other waste observed around the village, indicating a need for improved disposal and recycling practices.
